SURPRISING Sony a9 III Flash Demo w/ $30 Speedlite at 1/80,000!?
Просмотров 6 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Does the Sony a9 III require a high-end flash to be used at 1/80,000 shutter speed? In this video, I attempt to use a $30 speedlite to light myself and see if it works! While this isn't something I would normally do with my own work, it's interesting to see if it's possible to turn day into night by completely underexposing the ambient light with a high shutter speed and then using a flash to l...

Discussing The Sony a9 III & The Flash Sync Situation

Portrait Photography On 35mm Film Cameras ft. Manny Ortiz
Can we use this method and filter by rating in Windows Explorer before importing to lightroom?
Did I miss something? No mention of light height, degree, it's feather, direct? Thanks.
Sadly I don't have enough space for this are the 45 inches wescott umbrellas any good?
How do you think the contrast is / the blacks?
i found out my sony a7c 2 doesnt do high speed sync even though my godox ad600 pro has the option :(
A7c2 definitely does HSS. It's not a camera specific feature, but rather the lights and trigger you use.
The lights and trigger has the high speed sync option but the camera won’t allow me to go over 160 shutter
Which trigger are you using?
I’m using the Godox X2T-S Wireless TTL Trigger
The issue is with the trigger. Apparently it isn't compatible with the A7CII. I have the newer one (Godox X3s) and use it with my A7CR without issue.
I'm getting ready to photograph my seven year old and these tips will definitely come in handy! ...Now...How do I keep him still for more than one third of a second???
After weeks of research I came to the same conclusion. Funny how I landed here hoping to find an alternative to spending $3-4k on a setup only to be led back to the same camera I want lol. Perfect for my style of shooting (heavy cropping, compact, and the option of using either ff or apsc lens is great). If I had a x100vi I’d probably just keep it because it hits a sweet spot for size/capabilities/value/style (and i need ibis/mp), but I found when traveling abroad with a x100v I don’t care about the film sims, and dont want to draw attention to a camera. When I show folks back home some far off land, I want to convey what it was like to be there, that these are real places with real people - not some nostalgia drenched cinematic film grain color filter. However, when traveling local I did enjoy the x100v film sims - it makes familiar places fun to look at again haha 😅
I am considering a Godox TT600 speedlight which does have hss capability (when used with the right flash trigger.) Though I read one review where a photographer says that the hss for this particular flash is more suitable for backlight etc rather than the main light. Could this mean that the power output of the TT600 in hss mode is even weaker compared to other flashes that use hss? If that's the case, I might consider using ND filters instead of hss.
Does that 24mp create issue of any kind in photo or video ?
None whatsoever. 24mp is a sweet spot for a lot of different digital cameras.
Shooting outside with flash always makes me think of the wedding photographers before digital. They would be out there working with maybe a Hasselblad or a Bronica camera with a bare bulb flash on top or on a flash bracket. They flashed every shot, indoor or outside. There was no such thing as test shots but this is what they did for a living and they always came away with beautiful negatives. One time a family member tight on her wedding budget asked if I could photograph her wedding. I did not want to. I was an amateur hobbyist photographer not a wedding photographer, I was afraid of the responsibility involved. She told me she is not expecting professional photographs, just a recording of the day. I reluctantly agreed. I went to see my friend Jim who was a wonderful and very experienced wedding photographer. I asked him about setting exposures for flash outdoors. He said to me, It’s super easy. Pick the aperture you want to shoot at, say F8, now meter the outdoor scene to get your shutter speed for F8 and set your flash for the F8 range. Back then they were the auto thyristor type of flashes, similar to TTL but the great thing about them is they worked with any camera and were pretty accurate. I got my Hasselblad all ready with the 45 degree prism finder and my Sunpak J-120 flash on a flash bracket. I followed his instructions. I worked real hard that day under stress to take a collection of photographs that would record the important moments in chronological order. I used a pro lab that did work for all the pro wedding photographers in my area for processing and printing. We wound up with beautiful wedding photographs. Thirty years later I still look at them when I visit and they still look great and no one would know that an amateur took them because they turned out quite professional looking.
What about closing more the aperture in the camera? Isnt it easier? On top, the aperture wide open like you are shooting will never be the sharpest picture anyway.
I agree, that's how I would shoot my personal work. This is just another way of doing it if you want that blurry background look.
I choose hss for shooting ❤
Bro, thanks for heading straight to the point, you were really helpful.
This be great for cosmetic add also.
The title is misleading. It should be "how HSS works" . How is it made easy when you never showed us how to HSS?.
You missed it then. Re-watch the video and listen closely, I cover all of this.
You can spin it whatever way but the lens zooms in only 9mm, some of the half price competition zooms in 12mm
Those lenses don't have the same quality of optics, lens features, build quality, or lens motor speed. As with most things in life, it's a give and take. If those things aren't important for you then that's why those other options exist. For me, I'd rather buy the best I can get once so I don't have to buy again in the future when my needs change. Resale vale on first party lenses is also higher.
Great tips, Miguel! This is so insightful 👏
Thanks for watching! Got a new one on this topic dropping soon 👀
Great video. My question to you is. How did you arrive at the settings for the camera?
Lol yea well, the a9iii is a camera that PO folk just dream about having lol. I'm a rodeo photographer and the a9iii would be a game changer for my business. But I would have to get lucky and have a camera company sponsor me. I wonder if that camera would work with Paul C Buff Einsteins and white lighting strobes? Anyhow, love the videos. Keep 'em coming.
Hi for a6000 camera, there’s 2 port at the side, one charging and one hdmi , so which cable I should buy? Thanks
Watched till the end hoping there would a be a few full length shots so I could see the actual B-bokeh result. Torn between getting the F4 or the 2.8
thank you! This is a really helpful and clear video that explained to me the things I didn't understand before.
I would appreciate seeing SOOC, RAW. Too much editing afterwards for me to see the impact of lighting. A lot of adjustments can be made in Photoshop.
The photographer's actions are definitely understandable. Bro was famished, tired and thirsty and was being treated like crap. There's only so much someone can take before blowing up.
Blasphemous!
Useless, never show how to hss
Did you even watch the video? 🤨
Thumbnail pic is so misleading. The left picture is natural and full of life, the right is a horrible portrait.
Thumbnail is accurate, and your comment highlights my point. It's okay, at least you're in the right place to help you out.
@@MiguelQuilesJr then your point is that a filtered face with much blur and without any sign of life is the better one. Then you should work with AI instead of photo equipment. My criticism is about the thumbnail pic, not about the content.
Great Video!
Thank you!!
I think this video hit the nail on the head. I'm sure there are a lot more advantages that you didn't cover, which would have made this video much longer. For example, since Sony is a major manufacturer of sensors, their own bodies tend to get new sensor technology before anyone else. Sony is also one of the first to innovate and improve the camera industry as a whole. For instance, focus breathing compensation debuted in Sony cameras but is now available in Canon as well. The only bad thing I have to say about Sony is that one time I tried to update my A7IV, and it got bricked. I did my research before updating, I knew I was taking a risk, and I thought if I followed a tutorial video to the T, I would be fine, but my camera still ended up bricked. Fortunately, before I did anything, I went on Reddit to see if anyone had the same issue and what I should do. I removed the battery, put it back in, and my camera was reset. Besides that, Sony is great. 😅
I have older camera I still use for non profit events. This is good to know if renting or at a event using Profoto strobes for personal work.
Спасибо друг, очень познавательно 😇
Amen ⁰0000⁰⁰000⁰ñ110p0ñ00ñ10
Where do I buy it?
hi is anyone have the new link to download for 2024? As the link is no longer available now for A6000, may thanks
I prefer the ND Filter. In some of the HSS images you can tell that a flash is being used, imo.
The Green Eyed bandit, cant stand it, with more fruity loops than that Toucan sam bih
Is it possible to shoot video with that manfrotto stand (I have a Sony A7 iii)? Thanks in advance for your reply!
I wouldn't say so. The head is more for stills, but you could attach a video head to the legs and use it for video in that way. Hope that helps!
Great video! Would you recommend getting the FJ-X3 M or the FJ-X3 S for the Sony, since the universal trigger specifies that the Sony only works in manual mode?
Thank you! If you're using a Sony camera I recommend going with the Sony trigger. I only use the M trigger on my old digicams.
@@MiguelQuilesJr Thank you
Thank you so very much
This my favorite video from since has great music, and video. Kudos to you and your team.
Only been using flashes/modifiers for a couple of years now..and I always appreciate the "flash and light" insights!..thank you Miguel
It's a fun journey playing and understanding how light works. Hope these help!
@@MiguelQuilesJr Yes for sure!..obviously naturally light is king..lol but there is something about being able to "control" the light..makes the creative process even better and always learning something new.
Thank you for the video. In my opinion the position of the lightsource was a bit too low (almost head height). Depending on the position of her face, the shadow of her nose was almost looking upwards. Only in the third setup the lightsource was high enough and looked very nice. Peace.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback. Keep in mind that this video isn't necessarily about the lighting setups, but more about seeing how hard light and soft light looks. I have a bunch of lighting videos on my channel if that's more of what you like. ✌️
Is that how you do portraits today, so close to the background !? It does not look nice.
Feel free to look at my Instagram to see how I do my portraits today. This is a demonstration about the properties of light, with the goal of making the environment as simple as possible to identify those differences. It's not about looking "nice".
Great Video! Is this the Beauty Dish with the white or silver interior?
Thank you! This one was with the white interior.
as a former model, it's very true what you said about filtering yourself but this is not only a problem with newbies.....I've experienced this with photographers who are in the field for decades.
